On Wednesday, March 4, 2009, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for Nature, together with the Department of Energy (DOE), the Green Army Network, and the SWITCH movement will hold a press launch for Earth Hour Philippines (EHP) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hard Rock Cafe in Glorietta 3, Makati. Aside from the mentioned organizers, the press launch has invited several of the local government units which have pledged support for Earth Hour such as Manila, Makati, Pasay, Mandaluyong and Marikina. Outside Metro Manila, the cities of Cebu and Davao have organized themselves and their localities for the upcoming event. Personalities such as Margie Moran, Jim Paredes, Tweety de Leon, Cory Quirino, Paolo Abrera and Bianca Araneta-Elizalde were invited and have accepted to become EH ambassadors. Others who will be present during the press launch are church groups, business councils, youth organizations, civil society, academic institutions and non-government organizations. | ||

Organized jointly by Earth Institute Asia, Inc. & International Development Research Centre, the launch has invited Dr. Herminia Francisco, Director, EEPSEA, IDRC Regional Office for Southeast & East Asia, Singapore to give a talk on Climate Change Vulnerability Mapping for Southeast Asia. This will be followed by insights from a panel of reactors composed of Dr. May Celine Vicente from the Manila Observatory, Dr. Peter Nilo Tiangco from the National Mapping & Resource Information Authority, Ms. Sheila Marie M. Encabo from the National Economic & Development Authority, and Sec. Heherson T. Alvarez, Presidential Adviser on Global Warming & Climate Change. Climate Matters: Launch of the New Regional Climate Change Vulnerability Map for Southeast Asia will be held in the East-West Room of the Manila Golf & Country Club along Harvard Road, Forbes Park in Makati City.
