‘Trees for Life’ to plant 20 million seedlings by Dec.

MANILA, Philippines -- In just an hour, at least 10,000 trees were planted Wednesday in denuded areas in a watershed in Norzagaray town in Bulacan province, simultaneous with tree-planting activities in key areas in the country.

MANILA, Philippines -- To mark World Environment Day, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Green Army Foundation Inc. on Tuesday launched, "Tree for Life: 20 Million Seedlings for Planting."

Descendants, environmentalists mark Rizal birth anniversary

MANILA, Philippines -- Under a slight drizzle, amid the green of Rizal Park, Jose Rizal’s descendants and environmentalists Tuesday marked his 146th birth anniversary with a reminder to all: Protect the environment and respect history.

At the Orchidarium, an enclave at the park dotted with trees and lush greenery, they recalled a little known aspect of Rizal’s life -- he was an environmentalist.
